Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Mohammad Shamsul Reza bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Tengah was graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 1999 with B.A. (Hons) in Business Administration, he worked in the investment banking division of ANZ Bank in the City of London and later on with CommVerge Solutions in Singapore. He began his military career with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) on 12 November 2001. He underwent officer cadet training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) United Kingdom, where he received The Prince Saud Abdullah Prize for Best Overseas Academic Performance. Upon his return he was commissioned as a Lieutenant on 12 December 2003.


Throughout his career, Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Mohammad Shamsul Reza has held various appointments including Platoon Commander 'A' Company and Regimental Signals Officer (RSO) First Battalion Royal Brunei Land Force (1 Bn RBLF), Staff Officer Grade 3 G2 Cell RBLF Headquarters, Staff Officer Grade 2 Physical Training, the then Directorate Doctrine and Training RBAF, Assistant Head Soldier Fitness Management Group, Performance Optimisation Centre (POC), Officer Commanding 'D' Company 2Bn RBLF, Second in Command of the 3Bn RBLF and Commanding Officer 2Bn RBLF. In March 2019, he was appointed as the Chief Instructor Royal Brunei Armed Forces.


Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Mohammad Shamsul Reza has attended various military courses including Company Tactic Commander Course in Singapore in 2012. Advanced Infantry Officer in 2012, and Battalion Tactic Course in Singapore in 2013. In 2014 he attended the 45th Command and Staff College in Singapore and graduated with a Diploma in Organisational Leadership and Campaign and War Studies.


Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Mohammad Shamsul Reza is married to Tara Abdullah Teo @ Teo Lee Ying and is blessed with one son. He is a keen sportsman having represented Brunei Darussalam in junior international tennis as well as school and RMAS representatives in rugby and tennis. He currently maintains an active interest in polo.
