HISTORY OF DEFENCE ACADEMY ABDB
Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces was officially established on 25 November 2010 as a newly-formed unit under the administration of Ministry of Defence. The origins of Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces lie in the aspiration to have a Junior Staff Course muted in the 2004 white paper. This grew to the desire to have a Defence Academy to cover officers' development. The first major step for this was the establishment of Officer Cadet School. The next part was the establishment of a Command & Staff College.
Defence White Paper 2007:
"A Defence Academy is to be established to be the focus of continuous professional development…the next step will be to establish an Officer Cadet School, followed by a Command and Staff College"
Defence White Paper 2011:
"Establishment of the Defence Academy represents a major step forward. It offers a well-structured programme of courses for junior to mid-ranking officers at each step of their career progression"
Currently the Defence Academy is made up of three pillars: the Officer Cadet School, Leadership and Management Centre and Command and Staff College. The Defence Academy Headquarters then provides the support and policy umbrella for the whole institution.
