KAMPONG TANAH JAMBU, Wednesday 06 September 2017 – The Opening Ceremony of the Junior Officer Staff Course (JSC) 2017 was held today at the Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Colonel Saiful-Akhmar bin Haji Mohd Shariff, Commandant Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Force. The course is attended by 22 officers from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; one officer from the Royal Brunei Police Force and seven military officers from the Republic of China, Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of the Philippines, the Republic of Singapore, Kingdom of Thailand and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
In his opening speech mentioned the course as an important element in the training and education of professional military officer which aligns with the organisation’s life-long learning aspirations. With the largest number of students this year, the most central and valuable component in the course lies in the diversity of its participants in terms of uniforms and experiences that enables rich exchanges between students and provides opportunities that will broaden one’s horizons. The Commandant also reminded the importance of reading and reading diversely. By having the opportunity to undertake a study tour locally, this will be a guidance to enhance their level of awareness on strategic issues that influence the peace, stability, security and prosperity of the government and society. Before coming to conclusions, the Commandant also urged the course participants to expand their mind beyond their own circumstances. Lastly, all course participants were hoped to experience the real value of the course is not what will be or have done but how it will change the way they go about whatever comes next and the extent to which what the course participants have learnt here changes the way they go about their work from here on in.
The Junior Officer Staff Course is a 14-weeks course conducted by the Leadership and Management Centre, Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces. The course aims to develop the junior officers’ knowledge, leadership and management, communication skills and professionalism to enable them to meet their responsibilities as staff officers. It is a mandatory course for the officers of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and is a pre-requisite for Captain to Major promotion.
